Terracotta History
Traditional Craftsmanship for Over 132 Years. A Long and Proud History of Service
Established in 1897 as The Shaws Glazed Brick Company Ltd., we have enjoyed uninterrupted
manufacture and trading for over 109 years.
Adapting to ever changing market requirements, we have continually satisfied the needs of discerning architects seeking exciting building opportunities.
From the elaborate designs of the Victorian era, through the Art Deco period of the 1920’s and 30’s to the present day revival of Terracotta for restoration and new build projects, Shaws products have mixed wonderfully with other materials and matured beautifully with age.
The specialist skills to design, match and produce the highest quality of terracotta has now been enhanced by acquiring the craftsmen of Hathernware (formerly owned by Ibstock). We now enjoy unrivalled worldwide terracotta production capacity by manufacturing from both our Darwen and Hathern factories.
Established in 1874, The Hathern Station Brick & Terracotta Company have supplied terracotta to some of the finest buildings around the world. Recent projects include The Doulton Fountain, Glasgow, The Wrigley Building, Chicago, The Commonwealth of Kentucky State Capitol Building, to the elaborate designs of The De Barones shopping development in the Netherlands, amongst many.
Being previously together many years ago as The Shaw Hathernware Group, once again clients can be assured of our commitment to serving our heritage by producing terracotta of the highest quality.
