Basildon House, Moorgate, London
Spanning seven floors this listed Staircase was destroyed by fire during the course of building two further floors. Luckily the basement remained intact, but renewal to match the original meant 23,000 new faience tiles and blocks had to be made.

We were approached by Whinney Mackay Lewis Architects to study the extent of work and to match the original 19th Century Tiles. Samples were brought back to our factory and our laboratory set about colour matching the eight very highly gloss colours. Once we gained approval by English Heritage we secured the order and commenced production, with an overall manufacture period of five months, still meeting the contractors programme prior to the fire.

The faience adorns all the decorative arches, the lift surrounds and the vast areas of tiled walls. The blue and cream faience dado band complete this magnificent example of ceramic restoration.
