The manufacture of architectural terracotta in the US and UK are the same and share a common heritage that can be traced back to The Coade Artificial Stone Manufactory established by Eleanor Coade in Lyme Regis, England in 1769. Through the efforts of James Taylor, an employee of John Blashfield who trained at Coade, time proven methods of manufacture and firing that had been employed in the UK for decades were to spread throughout the fledgling terracotta industry that was to produce some of the finest examples of design and construction in the world.

Shaws of Darwen share in this heritage and have been a leading manufacture of architectural terracotta for over 120 years, using traditional and modern techniques. Shaws are able to offer the US market high quality product at competitive rates combining the unequalled experience of true craftsmen at the main production facility in the North of England and at the Hathernware site in the Midlands, trading in North America since 1986.
